Two Years Gone

October 3, 2018 by Laura

Hi, Everyone! It has been two years since my husband passed, and I have not been as diligent in my writing as I should have been. These past two years have slipped away like a dream, seeming to be eternally slooooow, but at the same time they disappeared in the blink of an eye. So many times I wanted to write or edit but couldn’t pull myself out of the bubble wrap in which my grief cocooned me. I functioned, but only enough to get through the day. Sometimes I felt like my character Jalani in Jalani’s Worth after she lost her family. I wrote that book after losing Joe, so her pain became near and dear as she struggled and grew through her frustrations and fears about the future. I feel as if I have grown as well; but I am not sure in what way. A dear friend sometimes asks me, “How goes the battle?” The hoped for response is, “I can see the horizon.” For two years the horizon has been full of fog and doubt, very seldom visible. The fog is finally starting to lift even though I still have down days, and I hope to see the horizon soon. I have an author’s fair coming up on December 1st, 2018 at Sterling, IL, in the Sterling Library from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m., so if you are in the area, come out to see me and support local authors. Next year I plan to attend more activities, hopefully traveling farther distances than just around my locale, but we will see. I am still in the editing process of Argen’s Shadow, Book Six for Stolen Heritage, which is going very slow. This will be the last book in this series before I start the next series, Chosen Heritage. I am hoping to have it finished by December. In the meantime I am also working on the next book of Heritage Past, entitled Brother’s Feud. This is the backstory behind the simmering quarrel between Tanamen and Zairyn Asharah in The Mission, Book One of Stolen Heritage. Their quarrel is lightly touched on in that book, but not the cause. I felt I needed to explore the brothers’ childhood to see how they came to be such antagonists. This book will hopefully be out near May. The Mission e-book version is currently on sale at Amazon.com and Smashwords.com for $.99. That sale will end October 31st of this year. Since most of my sales come through Amazon, I may switch to Amazon KindleUnlimited exclusively, since Amazon is also absorbing CreateSpace.com, through which I publish my paperbacks. Also by December I plan to have books available directly through my website, www.LauraSKearney.com, so that I can offer signed copies for anyone not local to my area. I will keep you updated on these plans, and I hope you all have a great fall season leading into the Holidays! Laura S. Kearney
